Sit Back, Grab Something Yummy to Drink, Enjoy...

A very big welcome to Robin Lin Photography if this is your first stop here.  What you are about to see is my most recent collection of my wedding, portrait, boudoir & commercial work, as well as a lot of random chat on life.

I'm incredibly passionate about what I do.  I really love what I do...this is the coolest job on the planet.  I love being able to play with kids, see the sweetest babies, rock with women for their ooh-la-la sessions, spend time with families, and be a part of a couple's day on their most important day of their lives.  This is the best job ever!

So sit back, grab something good to drink, maybe a snack and enjoy!  Definitely sign up for the RSS feed or the email feed so you can be on top of everything that is going on with me!

Oh, and if you want all the organizations and all the "official stuff" - I currently sit on the Advisory Board at the Living Arts College in Raleigh; my work can be seen & has been used by such companies as MpixPro, Simply Canvas and ProDPI; and my work is often published in The Knot and The Bride's Book.  I'm a membert of the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Assocation ((AG)WPJA), Wedding & Portrait Photographer's International (WPPI), Modern Photographers, and Professional Photographer's of America (PPA).  And I am an Award Winning Member of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA), The Knot Best of Weddings 2010 Pick and a recipient of a 2009 and 2010 Bride's Choice Award from Wedding Wire.

{Helping Out & Giving Back} Clicks for Quakes - Haiti Relief - Chapel Hill Portraits

As everyone knows, the devastation in Haiti was beyond unbelievable.  As a community, a group of photographers have decided to team up and offer brief sessions with 100% of the proceeds going to the relief effort.  In exchange you will receive ONE hi-resolution image.  What you would like to do with the image is limitless.  Use the image for Facebook, Twitter, send it to a loved-one for an upcoming holiday, new prints, etc.  The point is all about giving back in the best way we can.

Additionally, I’m personally offering all of my prints (which MUST be ordered by March 1) for 50% off.  This is an incredible savings!  All of my prints come matted on fine-art, archival mats.

Sessions will be in 15 minute increments, either in-studio or on-location in Chapel Hill only.  Please contact robin@robinlin.com or call 919.338.2504 and let the giving begin!

{Fresh Start for 2010}

Ahhh, it’s been such a great start for 2010!  I have SO much going on this year - both with RLP and in my personal life - I feel like my head is constantly spinning.  It’s so wonderful and so overwhelming at times.  I’ve already made a few changes, first to my little blog.  The header has been freshly updated with my fabulous clients and the background has just the tiniest little subtle changes.

And now on to some bigger differences.  Out with some old and in with some new!  Of course, I absolutely LOVE my wedding logo (I really love it).  I really have worked hard over the past year or so and continue to work to perfect my marketing, branding & packaging.  But I wasn’t 100% pleased with my portraits/kids logo….so it’s gone!  Yes…it’s gone!  It just didn’t fit, me and what I really fit.  So….I’m keeping the wedding logo and now it will fit both divisions, just in a new color.  Primiarly pink (or fuschia for those who don’t like saying “pink”).  But for when I have little boy clients, you’ll get packages delivered in blue, orange or green!  I love having fun with color in my portrait division, and I really enjoy the little extras I get to bring to the table with that.

But…the bigger change….I get to roll out my Oooh La La Boudoir logo TODAY!!  I’m so excited.  I’ve been revising and tweaking it - going back and forth with designers for about a week and we finally finalized it today.  I’m VERY excited about this as I LOVE it!  My boudoir packaging is VERY different from everything else I do and it’s very girly….

So….ENJOY!

{Baby H} Raleigh Newborn Session

Ahhh, I’ve been waiting for Baby H for a long time and he was a great way for me to start the New Year.  His mommy & daddy had a gorgeous maternity session last fall and I knew they’d have a beautiful baby.  Baby H is just gorgeous, he’s a sweet little boy, oh, he just makes me melt.  I absolutely love little ones…he is just 8 weeks old and absolutely perfect.  He has just brought so much happiness and love into their house.  Congratulations again!

The slideshow will be up next week but until then, a few of my favorites.  My very, VERY favorite is the third image (I absolutely LOVE it).

{Q’s One!} Chapel Hill Family Session

Yay for Baby Q!  I was so excited when his mom emailed me over the holidays and let me know that she wanted to set up Q’s one year old session.  Not only that, it was my first full session in my new studio and he really worked my place over.  It was SO much fun.  We crawled around, rolled around.  I’m so in love with that space and it’s REALLY great for little ones (because it’s so small) - they are really contained and can’t go too far (but I did realize I need outlet covers - fortunately he’s not an electrical outlet child).  I feel especially lucky as I’ve been able to document Baby Q’s mommy & daddy’s wedding, their day-after session (or trash-the-dress), maternity and newborn sessions - so I’ve seen so much of them over the years and I can’t wait to see more of them in the future.

The slideshow will be up in a few days…but here’s some of my very favorites in the meantime.  By far my 2 favorites and mommy and baby and the birthday boy in his hat!  Happy Birthday to one of the happiest, cutest little guys I know - you totally made my day!

{A New Studio for a New Year} Chapel Hill, NC

I realize I haven’t blogged in a few weeks and I sincerely hope everyone had a great series of holidays, no matter what holidays you celebrate.  I finally was able to spend some great time with my family & friends and I really enjoyed every minute I had.  I’m now looking into the start of 2010 and it’s going to be a fantastic New Year!  With that, I have some news!  I’ve moved my studio from Durham to Chapel Hill, specifically Franklin Street.  Ever since I started my business I always wanted to be on Franklin Street - one VERY late night I was searching around, found this space, saw it the next day and set the wheels into motion.  Everything moved very quickly and while I wouldn’t recommend trying to move your life around during the holidays - it’s totally doable.

So here’s my cozy new little space - with the emphasis on LITTLE.  It’s very little, especially if you ever saw my space in Durham (it’s less than 1/2 that).  But I LOVE it.  It’s wedged between Sutton Drugs and Firehouse Subs right upstairs in the Loft Offices (and right above Bandido’s).  Tons and TONS of great restaurants, shops, well, hey, it’s Franklin Street, it’s just pretty fantastic.

My address is:
157 East Franklin Street, Suite 7
Chapel Hill, North Carolin 27514

And because I LOVE details…had to show some of my favorites, including my darling Sydney, my first studio session (I LOVE that I have windows now and natural light).

And yes, I’m still by appointment only but I definitely hope to be in the studio more often as I’m so close to home as well.  So definitely give me a call if you want to stop by, say hi and check out my new space.

January 13, 2010 - 2:21 pm Daniel J Pesta - Hey Robin What a gorgeous space, congrats!!!!

January 4, 2010 - 9:45 am Melissa Kay - Congratulations, Robin! What an awesome space.

December 28, 2009 - 8:07 am Kate Monroe - Oh and I loooooove the etched glass tabletop! Love!

December 28, 2009 - 8:06 am Kate Monroe - It's gorgeous, Robin! I'm so excited for you, I can't image how ridiculous giddy I'd be to have a studio in the center of downtown. So awesome! We still need to meet up sometime, so I'll definitely let you know if I'm ever in the area so we can meet up. So, so thrilled for you!

{TreBella Holiday Party 2009} Let the Holidays Begin!

This evening I had a great time with the lovely TreBella sisters at their gorgeous bridal boutique in Durham (seriously I could just ooh and ahh over the gowns for hours  - the new line they have is so unbelievably gorgeous and the materials are exquisite).  Amazing catering by Triangle Catering and yummy desserts by Sweet Memories made for a great way to start the holiday season!

{Laura + Brad} Kiss Me - UNC Arboretum + Forest Theater

On Friday afternoon I met with Laura + Brad, a super-fun couple for their “Kiss Me” session at the UNC Arboretum and Forest Theater.   They are getting married next December and I’m very fortunate to be a part of their wedding.

While the weather wasn’t perfect, it was a misty, gloomy afternoon - Laura & Brad have incredibly chemistry together and I loved that they brought a mix of semi-formal and their love of sports to their session.  Thank you so much again guys!

{Tarrah + Ryan} Kiss Me - Eno River Park, Fearrington Wedding

On Sunday after a long day of shooting a series of other sessions I met Tarrah + Ryan at the Eno River Park for their Kiss Me session.  They will be having a beautiful wedding at the always lovely Fearrington next June and I’m so fortunate to be a part of their day.  I especially need to thank them for their patience with me on Sunday.  Somehow, on my drive between two parts of Durham my main, beloved camera died.  I realized it quickly at the start of their session and fortunately had 2 back-ups with me.  Well, I managed to break the second one as well so I was on to the 3rd one.  Fortunately that’s what backup gear is all about and I have lots of it!  The leaves were gorgeous at the park and I think we probably couldn’t have waited another week as things are already starting to fall off.

Thank you both so much - can’t wait for your wedding!

{Oooh La La} Just One - Boudoir

Did I say one…okay I really meant 3.  I’m horrible about editing images down…it’s a downfall really.  This past Sunday I had a fantastic time shooting my “Oooh La La” sessions for 3 gorgeous ladies.  I truly believe that women should embrace themselves no matter what stage they are at in their lives…we are all really fabulous and should celebrate that.  My take on boudoir is really about glamour with allure and a bit of sexy thrown in as well.  I really encourage my lovely ladies to think outside of the box when they are deciding on what to bring - and always bring those fabulous shoes, because nothing makes you feel more fabulous than great shoes!

I still have tons of editing to do but I just wanted to put up a few images.  I’m hoping to convince my other two fabulous women to allow me to post a couple of their more “innocent” images…but I make no promises.  And yes, boudoir is WAY more processed than any wedding or portrait images you see from me.

{Grace + Alex} Wedding - The Barn at Valhalla, Chapel Hill

I knew I was going to have a really great day when Alex came up to me when he saw me, gave me a hug and said, “I’m so glad to have you here.”  It was just nice, set me at ease and put me in a good place.  Grace & Alex’s wedding was just, well perfect.  It was on October 10 (yes, I know, I’m so behind on my blogging) at The Barn at Valhalla.  The weather that day looked dicey at best and I have to admit, I knew what they had in mind for their beautiful outdoor ceremony and I was nervous.  I was checking the radar and weather all morning and it continued to get better and better and I knew we’d have a good day.  I thought we might have rain during the reception but that didn’t bother me.

I have to say, I felt very honored to work with Grace & Alex on their wedding.  I had been really looking forward to this day for a long time.  But this wedding had so much love, so much emotion, it gave me so much renewed hope & love in so many things.  I can’t honestly thank them enough.

I was incredibly fortunate to work with the most amazing team on this wedding.  The lovely ladies of TreBella provided the gorgeous flowers, Cinda with Cinda’s Creative Cakes make the beautiful cake, Durham Catering Company provided the yummy food, the VERY wonderful, always pleasant Robin Renteria officiated and Shutterbooth provided a Photobooth (something I hadn’t ever had at one of my weddings).

Grace & Alex…from the very, very bottom of my heart…thank you!

{Guashauna + Ed} Kiss Me - Duke Gardens

Guashauna & Ed are just sweet and adorable and loving together.  I’m so incredibly fortunate to be documenting their wedding in April.  I have such awesome couple’s for 2010, I just can’t wait.  We had really great weather for their Kiss Me session at Duke Gardens - that perfect blend of not too hot, not too cold, nice overcast - left that perfect light to make everything beautiful.  Thank you again guys!!
