Samantha & Shawn’s beautiful wedding started out with a traditional Tea Ceremony at the Embassy Suites in Raleigh. I asked Samantha what the tradition is and she said it’s traditionally considered a final opportunity for the bride to serve her parents before she becomes a part of the groom’s family. Historically, the bride would most likely be moving far from her family without a lot of opportunities to visit.
When serving the groom’s parents, it symbolizes the bride becoming a part of the groom’s family. The tea is served to elder immediate family as well, as a sign of respect and gratitude. In return, they give their well wishes, jewelry and/or red envelopes of money which are for good luck.
I’m so glad I was able to be a part of the ceremony…it was very unique and really started the wedding day beautifully.

Ohhhh, that purple room and her shoes are FANTASTIC. Beautiful job, Robin! The dancing candids are great.
I have read about Chinese tea ceremonies but I have never seen one! These pictures are beautiful and very elegant! Congrats to the couple!
