{Wedding} Samantha + Shawn – Part 1 – Tea Ceremony – Raleigh Photographer

Samantha & Shawn’s beautiful wedding started out with a traditional Tea Ceremony at the Embassy Suites in Raleigh.  I asked Samantha what the tradition is and she said it’s traditionally considered a final opportunity for the bride to serve her parents before she becomes a part of the groom’s family.  Historically, the bride would most likely be moving far from her family without a lot of opportunities to visit.

When serving the groom’s parents, it symbolizes the bride becoming a part of the groom’s family.  The tea is served to elder immediate family as well, as a sign of respect and gratitude.  In return, they give their well wishes, jewelry and/or red envelopes of money which are for good luck.

I’m so glad I was able to be a part of the ceremony…it was very unique and really started the wedding day beautifully.

  • I have read about Chinese tea ceremonies but I have never seen one! These pictures are beautiful and very elegant! Congrats to the couple!

  • Ohhhh, that purple room and her shoes are FANTASTIC. Beautiful job, Robin! The dancing candids are great.
