{A New Studio for a New Year} Chapel Hill, NC

I realize I haven’t blogged in a few weeks and I sincerely hope everyone had a great series of holidays, no matter what holidays you celebrate.  I finally was able to spend some great time with my family & friends and I really enjoyed every minute I had.  I’m now looking into the start of 2010 and it’s going to be a fantastic New Year!  With that, I have some news!  I’ve moved my studio from Durham to Chapel Hill, specifically Franklin Street.  Ever since I started my business I always wanted to be on Franklin Street – one VERY late night I was searching around, found this space, saw it the next day and set the wheels into motion.  Everything moved very quickly and while I wouldn’t recommend trying to move your life around during the holidays – it’s totally doable.

So here’s my cozy new little space – with the emphasis on LITTLE.  It’s very little, especially if you ever saw my space in Durham (it’s less than 1/2 that).  But I LOVE it.  It’s wedged between Sutton Drugs and Firehouse Subs right upstairs in the Loft Offices (and right above Bandido’s).  Tons and TONS of great restaurants, shops, well, hey, it’s Franklin Street, it’s just pretty fantastic.

My address is:
157 East Franklin Street, Suite 7
Chapel Hill, North Carolin 27514

And because I LOVE details…had to show some of my favorites, including my darling Sydney, my first studio session (I LOVE that I have windows now and natural light).

And yes, I’m still by appointment only but I definitely hope to be in the studio more often as I’m so close to home as well.  So definitely give me a call if you want to stop by, say hi and check out my new space.

{Such a quiet blog}

I’m so {very super} sorry for being so quiet lately.  Trust me, if you knew what was going on behind the scenes you’d realize my poor blog has just been the last thing on my mind lately.  I do really apologize.  I had a great Kiss Me session earlier this week, have another one today, my first wedding of the season tomorrow…lots and lots going on.  And a huge announcement on Wednesday (that no one is going to see coming).  So hopefully I can catch up at some point.  Please try to be patient with me.  I so appreciate my blog readers, I really do…I even have some beautiful canvases for my house that I wanted to show you, didn’t even get a chance to do that.  I do promise…soon.

{Quite simply} Thank you…

I can’t believe tomorrow is New Year’s Even and so ends 2008.  It has been such an amazing year for me.  I began 2008 signing the lease on my studio (which granted took way longer to get into than I anticipated).  I love having it now and realize I’ve already outgrown my space.

To all 23 of my wedding couples – I had so much fun being with all of you.  It was my extreme pleasure to photograph each and every one of you and I thank you all for trusting me with your most important day from the very bottom of my heart.

To my fabulous portrait clients – you are all fantastic and you know it.  All of you made me smile and warm my heart.  You all allowed me to connect with you in ways that I can’t connect with others and for that, I thank you.

To my commerical clients – you guys are awesome and I look forward to a fabulous 2009.

To my fantastic friends (you know who you are) – you guys ROCK!  I love you all.  You pick me up when I fall and give me the push to keep going forward, even when I want to bury my head or just crawl into bed.

And most importantly…my unbelievable family.  Ah, I don’t even know what to say about you guys.  You put up with so much from me and continue to take more and yet always give hugs & kisses & smiles.  You guys continue to push & encourage me and I know you are there for me when no one else is.  You guys are really the best….and I love you more than words can say.

So to everyone, happy new year…and quite simply….thank you! :)

{Our Family Session}

So the last time we did “real” family pictures was when I was pregnant with Sydney and Madi was 18 months old.  Madi is now rapidly closing is on 4 1/2 and Sydney is almost 2 1/2 – so we are LONG overdue (which is really rather sad and pathetic given the amazing photographers I know and am very good friends with).

We all finally caved and decided to do a family session with my fantastic friend and very talented photographer, Penny Noell.  I think we sqeezed in one of the few last semi-decent afternoons because since then it has been horribly cold and wet (actually this was just the Sunday before Thanksgiving).  Our session was at Golden Belt where Penny and I both have our studios and it is my new favorite place for urban sessions – so if anyone is interested in a much more modern approach for their family or engagement portraits, we are definitely shooting there!

So…just one for you….and thank you again to Penny!

{Holiday Shopping Tonight} Studios are open!

Need something fun to do tonight!?  Golden Belt will have it’s doors open and the merriment will be plenty.  I’ve even got my eye on a few pieces from some of the artists.  And I’ve got some very cool fine art pieces for sale as well.

My apologies…

I apologize I haven’t blogged in a while.  I am editing like a little mad-woman in the hope that I can get the bulk of everything done before the Thanksgiving holiday next week.  I do have 2 fantastic family sessions to blog and _oh_my_god_ the best red shoes I’ve bought _ever_.  Seriously!

So please be patient and stay tuned……

{Camille + Carl} Wedding

On Friday night I had the opportunity to be a part of Camille and Carl’s absolutely fantastic wedding at the Doubletree in Durham, styled by Sally with An Elegant Affair and Ryan with Island Sound seriously did an awesome job with the music!

I had met Camille a very long time ago, so I feel as though I’ve known her and been through a lot of this planning process.  Finally seeing it all come together was so wonderful for me.  And to have such a gorgeous day was the icing on the cake for me!

While Camille was getting “anchored” into her dress she received a very sweet text from Carl that made her absolutely glow…

Ok we have to talk about the shoes in this wedding.  The women ROCKED the shoes.  Camille had gorgeous red shoes.  they were so beautiful!

Camille’s sister had some gorgeous Jimmy Choo’s!

The absolutely beautiful bride…

The ceremony was simply beautiful overlooking the lake…

On to the party!

My absolutely favorite dance shots of the evening…

The details…

Camille & Carl…I wish you all the best as you start your lives together!

I got a facelift!

Well really a makeover – I’m super excited to launch my new logo today!  Up until now I’ve always designed my own logos, something I’ve struggled with and never really thought they truly “fit” me.  Well, I finally had a few designers work on one for me, had a whole bunch of fun designs to review over the past day or so and I finally have it.  So I’ve spent the past day updating my website, blog, etc. etc.  So…here it is, do you love it?!  I hope so.

The little symbol…that’s my new watermark which will pretty much appear everywhere on my blog now on my images, so you’ll be seeing a lot of it :)

Organization & Closure

I’ve decided next week I need to close the office.  I’ll try to keep up with emails but I’m not going to do anything photography related (although all appointments will still happen and I’m happy to have consultations & final meetings with my current couples).  I’m hoping that everyone that is patiently waiting on work from me can understand the need for a break – I’ve had a very long summer and I’m ramping up for another 10 weddings between October 1-November 7.  I’m hoping to organize my closets, maybe get a massage, and take a few naps…

But something awesome I did today was get a dry erase board and write out the weddings that have work outstanding and everything it takes to get a wedding out the door from my side of things…it was a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders and I just have to share this! :)

Thanks everyone!  I really appreciate your support, understanding…and your goodness!

Bubble Tea

So after Jennifer’s bridal I decided to treat myself to something yummy.  It was a gorgeous day and I wasn’t in a huge rush (for once).  So I walked on Franklin St. just for a bit and stumbled upon Chill Bubble Tea.  I decided, why not?!  I’ve always wanted to try it, so I went in.  They had lots of different options and you don’t have to get the tapioca pearls (but I did).  I got the pineapple which was super yummy and I have to admit, the tapioca took some getting used to but it was pretty good – I’d definitely get it again but probably ask for a little less next time.

Updates, Updates, Updates…

My apologies for being so quiet this week, it’s been a crazy week here as I’m really trying to make progress with the backlog of weddings I’m trying to get edited and out the door to my wonderful couples.   And as a teaser, I shot the most amazing two-day wedding over the Labor Day weekend, I feel terrible that I haven’t blogged it yet – but I can’t wait to show all of you…it was UNBELIEVABLE!

So…on to some updates (I figured we are all going to be stuck inside with Hannah this weekend so it’s a good idea to post some updates now):

~ BRIDAL SHOW OPEN HOUSE – this Tuesday, September 9 from 6:00-8:00pm at the studio.  We’ll have some yummy treats, lets chat about your wedding…and we are having some fantastic specials right now for those that book before October 15.

~ OPTIONAL PICK-UP FOR PRINT & PRODUCT ORDERS!  Now that the studio is open, you have the option when checking out to check “pick-up” and the shipping charges are waived so no more shipping fees!  I’ll let you know when your prints are ready and we’ll just arrange a time to come in and pick them up.

~ FALL PORTRAIT PROMO IS BACK!  Our 3rd year in a row and we’ll be having it again.  I usually do this over a few weekends in October and unfortunately this year I’m going to have to push this into November because I have 6 weddings in October (yes, 6 to those who are counting).  I haven’t decided the exact dates or details but if you want details – just send me an email to robin@robinlin.com and I’ll add you to the list when it goes out).

and lastly……….

~ WRAP YOURSELF UP FOR THE HOLIDAYS!  My first “Oooh La La” marathon.  This will also be in November…I’ll be having it at a local hotel…talk about a great gift for the holidays for the special someone in your life….email me for details (robin@robinlin.com).

Have a great weekend everyone!

Open House Details…

For those who are attending the Open House tomorrow…and need better directions to my studio, I’d welcome you to park in the back parking lot which is located off of Belt St. Basically off of Main St. you’ll turn left on Morning Glory, then left on Belt and you’ll see a large parking lot on your left side – park in that lot. My building is building 3 which is located between Buildings 2 & 4 (building 3 is not clearly marked but is a one-story building with LOTS of beautiful windows and white glass doors). I’m in Suite 3113.

See you tomorrow!

I ~heart~ Simply Canvas

I’ve had a pretty unexpected but fun day.  Not only is there a huge show tonight at my building which I’m excited about but I received an email today from Simply Canvas mentioning that they heard I’m using them as my canvas company for all the canvases in my studio.  Yep, absolutely true.  I had completely planned to only display canvases on my walls when designed the studio and they were always going to be, Simply Canvas.

So today they asked me for some images as they saw my blog post about my studio and they’ve now featured me on their blog.  Additionally, I just received a call asking if I’ll participate in a webinar in the near future on studios & displays so I’ll be doing that soon as well (I’m totally excited about that).
