A very special weekend in Chicago…

This weekend I took a very special trip to Chicago.  Yes, I got to see my sister and brother-in-law which always makes me happy but this was even more special to me as it was my first “girl’s only” weekend with my daughter, Madi.  We’ve decided to each take a solo trip a year with Madi and as soon as Sydney gets older we’ll start doing solo trips with her.

We flew out to Chicago on Friday afternoon and despite the insane flight delays out of Raleigh and getting in way past her bedtime, Madi was a total rockstar.  She is a great travel buddy and we had such a wonderful time together.  The weather in Chicago was perfect, around 30-35 degrees, bright sunshine, couldn’t have been better.  We had amazing Chicago deep dish pizza, went to the Shedd Aquarium (which is by far my favorite aquarium now), shopped on Michigan Ave. (and of course did some damage at Lush, Crate & Barrel and the Disney Store) and wrapped up Saturday with a great dinner at Uncle Julio’s (fantastic Mexican food).

Saying goodbye to my sister was difficult as it always is, but knowing that I had Madi with me made it so much better.  She said it was “the best trip ever” and she really loved it.  She snoozed all the way home…it was really such a great weekend for me…

Movies & apple juice – what more could a 3 1/2 year old ask for?

The Oceanarium at Shedd Aquarium – really cool dolphin show with a gorgeous city view in the background!

And of course, the beautiful Chicago skyline.

How much can you stuff in an Odessey?

I realize I’m a bit behind in my blogging.  I’ve spent the past week doing corporate taxes…fortunately my husband saved the day – he’s way more savvy when it comes to that than I am.

So as you know, a few weeks ago we went to Atlanta on a “scouting” mission for furniture for my studio.  We made a lot of great decisions and I found a meeting table I was in “Love” (hint hint) with.  So over the holiday weekend my husband and I made the trek to DC round-trip in a day in an Odessey to pick everything up.  I can happliy report that EVERYTHING fit into the Odessey.  I was deliriously happy to have it all done (ok, well almost all done).  We couldn’t actually see each other the entire drive home as one of the items was the entire length of the mini-van.  You’ll see the tremendous amount of head room I had coming back ;)   I’m so excited about the studio opening…

Kinda lonely when you can’t see the person you are talking to for 4 hours…

Get to know….ME!

I just sent a list of my “Top 12 Getting to Know you Questions” to my 2008-09 couples and I promised I’d post my answers here.  So here you go…..(keep in mind I got married a LONG time ago, so my answers are horribly dated) ;)

1.      You just wake up, how do you start your day?  Coffee – no cream, no sugar? Tea? Good old fashioned juice?  Or is a grande, skim, mocha that gets you going?
Depends on how much sleep I got…generally I prefer English Breakfast (or Awake) tea, if I need serious caffeine, a non-fat vanilla latte or non-fat mocha does it for me.

2.      It’s Saturday morning, you have a free day with no commitments, what are you going to do?
Sleep in, get a manicure & pedicure and a massage, read a bit, take a nap, go out to dinner

3.      Where is your favorite place to eat out?
Hmm, this is a toss up between P.F. Chang’s (which we seriously love) or Spanky’s in Chapel Hill

4.

What is your favorite movie as a couple?  And individually.
Well the first movie we saw as a couple was “Sleepless in Seattle”, not sure if that qualifies as our favorite though :)   For me personally, I love chick flicks and LOVE spooky/slasher movies.

5.      Favorite song right now?  Do you have a theme song for life, if so, what is it? Favorite artists?  (feel free to answer either individually or as a couple)
I really like Colbie Caillat a lot and I LOVE “Sorry” by Buckcherry.  Honestly I’ll listen to almost anything – my husband and I really have different tastes in music so we merged a lot of music when we started dating.

6.      If you were stranded on a deserted island, what 5 things would you take with you?
Of course, hands down – my husband, and 2 girls.  Probably suntan lotion as I burn so easily…hmm, my last item – probably some great music on an ipod or something so we can dance on the beach together.

7.      How long have you been together?
We are getting ready to celebrate our 15th anniversary together and we’ll be married 12 years this year!!!! (Now I sound really old).

8.      How did you meet? How did he propose?
We met at the end of our freshman year in college, we went out to a movie together with a bunch of friends — the rest is history!!

9.      What are your wedding colors?
Our wedding colors were hunter green & silver

10.  What flowers are you using for the wedding (just generally)?
I wish I remember what was in my bouquet, it was so beautiful though

11.  What song is your first dance to?  Or your “special song”?
Our special song is “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel

12.  Where are you going on your honeymoon?
We went to Jamaica (and there is a LONG story behind that one)!!

THANKS FOR READING!

I really enjoy Oooh La-La Sessions – the bride’s feel beautiful & sexy and the grooms are always thrilled :)   I shot another one today, but alas, no images to share.  These are for private eyes only….but they are GORGEOUS!  She is such an amazing bride, I can’t wait for her upcoming wedding….

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I realize my post is a little late in the day…but it’s a been a pretty nice day overall.  I’m not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day but having the girls makes it way more fun and enjoyable.

Madi, Sydney and I made treat bags for all her friends in her preschool class….

Then we got some AMAZING cupcakes delivered to us by the wonderful, scrumptous Doe Bakery (doebakery.blogspot.com) — Dawn’s stuff is soooo yummy! (isn’t her packaging adorable?!)

PROGRESS!

What a surprise I had yesterday!  I drove over to check on my studio just to see what was going on and I was totally shocked to find the drywall up.  I didn’t have my camera handy so I went back today :)   I’m so unbelievably excited to be getting this space soon.  I have every detail planned out – I promise it’ll look great!!

Happy Birthday!

Today is my mother-in-law’s birthday and it’s a special birthday because she is turning 60.  She’s in great health and puts up with us, and especially all my insane, last minute requests and for that – I’m eternity thankful and grateful.  My wonderful husband made her birthday cake (from scratch) last night as I was sick (again) and today I did the frosting & decorating.  Not too bad, eh?

Weekend in Atlanta

This past weekend we went to Atlanta mainly as a scouting missing for furniture for my studio.  Of course, no trip to Atlanta (with children in tow) is complete without a trip to the fantastic Georgia Aquarium.  It’s really a lot of fun, tons of amazing fish and if you go early (my personal recommendation is to go on a Sunday morning) – the crowds are non-existant.  My girls had a blast….it even seemed that Sydney enjoyed it more than Madi.

(oh and for any of you techy/engineer Bay Area transplants – there is a Frye’s Electronics in Atlanta as well – it was great to see :) )

A new chick for the Red Hen…

I just returned home from the most amazing experience.  I was fortunate enough to photograph DeeDee’s birth of her 2nd beautiful daughter.  DeeDee and I met just about a year ago when she was just starting The Red Hen in Carrboro and when I knew she was pregnant again, I really wanted to do this for her.  She called me this morning around 7:40 and told me her water had broke and she’d call me again when she was heading to the birth center.  Around 9:30am her mom called me and said they were at the birth center and to arrive.  I arrived about 20 minutes later and nature ran it’s course.  It was really incredible to be a part of it…I just can’t thank them all enough for allowing me to be a part of such an emotional, intimate day.  Thank you and congratulations to all of you!
