{Kristen + Brian} Wedding – Carolina Inn

Yesterday I was at the Carolina Inn for my last wedding of May and it was incredible.  Not only was the weather absolutely perfect but Kristen and Brian were gorgeous to say the least.  I had a great time at their wedding, every detail from the flowers from Fresh Affairs to the bridesmaids dresses from J Crew to Kristen’s gorgeous Nicole Miller gown were just impeccible.  Everyone just had an amazing time.  I can’t even begin to recap everything here.  They were so beautiful and so happy together…it was a very long time coming and I was so glad that I got to be a part of this celebration.

I love the simple elegance of this cake…

The very happy new couple…

And of course…the details!!!

Kristen & Brian…thank you so much again…I had such a great time…and I wish you both every happiness as you begin this new chapter of your lives together!

{Laura + James} Wedding – Duke Gardens

Laura & James…what can I say.  Their wedding was so beautiful.  The weather was wonderful, everything about the day was absolutely perfect.  Duke Gardens was gorgeous as always and we managed to finish just before the huge storm blew on through.

This was for me, my most challenging, yet probably most relaxing wedding.  I cried more than I ever thought possible (except maybe at my sister’s wedding and really that was just embarrassing) and yet I had a great time as well.

I have to start with Laura’s dress…the dress that started my tears when she unwrapped it for me (fortunately it was just Laura & I in the room when my tears started).

Their ceremony was very moving & emotional for everyone.  I really don’t think there was a dry eye in the house.

The very happy, new couple (note the blinged out flip flops)…

Their first dance….I think it was my weekend for great first dances…

And this shot…what can I say but I love everything about it…

Details, details, details….my favorite things to photograph.

Laura & James…..thank you.

{Brooks + Dave} Wedding – Celebrity Dairy

Last Saturday, I had the great opportunity to photography Brooks & Dave’s wedding at the Inn at Celebrity Dairy in Silery City.  What a fun, unique, beautiful venue!  It couldn’t have been a more beautiful day for a more beautiful couple.  Brooks & Dave are truly wonderful, both inside & out and I feel very lucky to have been able to be a part of their day.

I wish I could say I get credit for this idea…but this was all the flower girls…how cute are they?!

I love this…their first dance.

Of course, the details — and note, how many weddings do you get to photograph with a peacock walking around?!

Thank you so much guys!  The world is definitely a better place because you are both in it!

Another cutie!

As I mentioned in my post of yesterday I was super lucky to photograph back-to-back adorable little girls this week, who also happened to be about the same age as well.  Tons of fun for me.  This family is incredible, this little girl is surrounded by so much love & happiness – she’s incredibly lucky.  She came into the world with grandparents who flew halfway around the world to be with her.  Actually, the mom was in Allison & Ryan’s wedding just a few weeks ago, so seeing them again so soon was absolutely fantastic!

This was one of the few moments she sat still…this is one little girl who is on the go!

Snuggle time with mom….doesn’t get better than this.

Talk about cute!

I had so much fun with this family early on Tuesday morning this week.  They are absolutely adorable, just check out all that red hair.  I loved laying on the grass and just photographing the baby girl.  Maybe it’s because I haven’t had a lot of babies in a while (but lucky me I got 2 baby girls back to back this week) but I just loved her.  She had this calm, seriousness about her, which was such a contrast to her brother who is a ball of energy.  It will be fun to see what she’s like in another year to two!

I have, when needed – given children my camera (while I’m still holding it), put stuffed animals on my head, or had them make princess or monster faces.  For little boys (generally) – monster faces work :)   He was awesome though, by the end, he gave me a great big hug!

How cute is she?  She grabbed the dandelion herself and just started playing with it.

I absolutely love when parents ask me to photograph just the two of them, and it happens almost every time.  It’s great to see there is still a spark, still a connection, after the kids, the diapers and all the craziness of every day life.

Jennifer & Brooks’ Engagement…

I got to spend a some time with Jennifer & Brooks on Monday evening on UNC’s campus and on Franklin St.  It was so great!  We checked out a bunch of different murals and alleyways as well as walking around campus.  They are a great couple and I’m really looking forward to their wedding this fall!

I LOVE flare…I struggle getting it right and love when I do!

Closed next week!

Hi Everyone!  Next week (week of Memorial Day) we’ll be closed.  I need some time off.  May has been an incredibly busy month for me and I need to catch up on life, both personally and on the business side of things as well.  I’ll be around but just in a slower pace of things.  I will definitely blog the 2 weddings I had last weekend and all 3 sessions I’ve had this week as well before then…no worries there!

Hope everyone understands!  Have a great holiday weekend!

{Allison + Ryan} Wedding – Shady Wagon Farm

Allison & Ryan had an incredibly beautiful wedding at Shady Wagon Farm on May 3.  I feel horrible that I haven’t blogged about it yet – but hopefully it was worth the wait!  The weather was perfect, there was so much love in the air….it was just wonderful.  They have such an incredible connection together – I love seeing them with each other.  I remember when I photographed their engagement session in Charleston I thought it was amazing how they interacted together, I didn’t have to tell them a thing, so I knew their wedding would be truly beautiful…

This was the very first minute Allison’s dad saw her…I love being a part of this!

I am so in love with this image…

They brought in a classic Ford pickup truck for photos.  Talk about a dream for me!  I had a blast with this.  I got the groomsman to jump off, got a lot of different combinations – so much fun!

And no wedding is complete, without incredible details!  Thank you Allison & Ryan so much for letting me be a part of your day….

We went camping!

I haven’t been camping since I think Sophmore year in college – so it’s been a long, LONG, time.  Madi has been wanting to go camping so we decided (after needing to buy ALL the gear) to go this weekend.  While I wanted to go the mountains to do “real” camping, we decided to go to Jordan Lake just in case the girls freaked out as it would only be a 30-minute drive home.

We had a GREAT time on Saturday afternoon.  The campgrounds were great, super clean, nice and wooded, really fun.  The girls had a blast setting everything up, cooking with real fire (as opposed to gas grills) and having s’mores.  Everything was going perfect….until bedtime.  Sydney for some reason started getting scared – we still aren’t sure but after 90 minutes of her just not really settling down at all we gave up – Steve and Sydney came home and Madi and I stayed.   I grew up camping, I’ve camped a LOT, but again, haven’t been camping in 10+ years and since Steve had the car he also had EVERYTHING with him – basically the only thing I had was my cell phone, camera and a bottle of water and a few sleeping bags & pillows (as I didn’t want him to leave any food for obvious reasons and I knew they’d be back first thing in the morning).

I can at least say Madi had a great night’s sleep….me, not so much.  For some reason every sound set me on edge and at 1am I was shining my flashlight out looking for whatever animal was making the sound that was driving me crazy.  I know I heard a raccoon as well at one point too.  It was a VERY long, sleepless night.  At 4am, Madi and I walked to the bathroom and then it just got cold – we both snuggled – we had 4 sleeping bags but she kept saying she was cold…and I felt kind of bad but she still managed to sleep (and I didn’t).

Steve and Sydney arrived at 8am to get us – fortunately he managed to check the weather and knew we only had about an hour before rain and sure enough, just about exactly and hour it started raining so we tossed everything in the car and came back home.

But, it was great overall and Madi wants to go again.  We are going to try again …but this time we are going to use our backyard to get Sydney comfortable and we need air mattresses (but maybe I’m just getting old) :)

Another baby!

I got another baby for Mother’s Day today!  A Lensbaby that is.  It was a totally unexpected Mother’s Day gift (as I just treated myself to the amazing Think Tank bag for all my gear) and I just love it.  It’s a fun little lens that is all manual (imagine that)!  It’s a tiny, tiny little thing – I’ll definitely bring to my weddings & portrait sessions and use it a bit….so here’s just one of my new baby and one using my new baby of my amazing Mother’s Day gift Madi made me at school (which is by far the BEST present I’ve ever received).

2008 Weddings

We are sold out!  I’ve been sold out since February but have contemplated taking 1-2 more, but I’m not going to.  Part of what I love what I do is I love treating my couple’s well, love treating my portrait clients well, and I can’t do that if I take on any more work.

2009 has already begun booking and we will be taking on FEWER weddings in 2009.  So I strongly suggest booking early if you are interested.  We are revamping our packages in the next few weeks and will have them up soon!

My blog is back!

Yes the blog is back!  I’ve had a rough few days.  I managed to delete this entire blog this weekend, what’s worse – I had no backups.  Fortunately all the text was restored easily but I had reformat all the colors, fonts, etc.  But it let me make some cool upgrades (i.e. the fun flash header, etc.).  But alas, ALL the photos were lost in the process.  Granted, I have them all but they all have to be manually uploaded again for each post.  So…..I’m only doing the current page – if you click back a page, you won’t see it.  My apologies for doing it this way, but I just don’t have the time.

But hopefully you’ll enjoy all the new sessions I’ve had lately, I’ve got a wedding sitting on my other monitor waiting to be blogged as well.  And I still have 3 more weddings this month as well :)   So definitely check back…and I promise not to delete it again!

Heidi & Evan’s Engagement Session

On Sunday afternoon I met Heidi & Evan at a very cool park in Durham.  Granted, I will probably never forget where the park is because I got lost on the way despite Google map directions and a GPS – I still went to the wrong place.  Despite the hiccup and showing up a bit late, we had a really good time together and had a great adventure exploing the park.  We found some amazing old tobacco buildings….

Meredith & Dan’s Engagement Session

On Sunday, I met Meredith & Dan at the American Tobacco campus for their engagement session.  This was the first time I met them as they live in NJ but will be getting married at Duke Gardens in September.  They are FUN FUN FUN!  We had such a great time together exploring the campus, chatting about their wedding and getting to know each other.  Their wedding is going to be incredibly fun and I’m so happy I get to be a part of it!

Yummy!

So of course in between all these sessions a girl gets hungry!  One of my favorite new places on Franklin St. in Chapel Hill is Sugarland.  They have the yummiest cupcakes and pastries.  We discovered it accidentally one night after a dinner at Spanky’s (another favorite in this house).  We were walking back to our car and passed it and stopped in for dessert.  The atmosphere is just too cute and the treats are just too yummy.  Because I was in between sessions on Sunday, I actually had my camera on me this time :)

A truly beautiful family

This family is just beautiful, both inside and out.  The adorable twin girls and most adorable baby boy just make this family complete.  But what I love most about them is how incredibly happy mom and dad are together.  They are about to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary this fall and you’d think they just got married, they are so incredibly in love still!

Mr. blue eyes :)

A Brother & Sister

These two siblings are just adorable.  I think the older they get the more they look like each other.  I just love their giant, brown eyes.  And I really love this first one of him in the safety of his mommy’s arms.

How cute is he?

Isn’t he just adorable?  I had a great family session with his mom and dad and 2 older brothers at UNC last weekend.  We just had a great time together.  Especially once I got all the boys into the trees.
