I ~heart~ Simply Canvas

I’ve had a pretty unexpected but fun day.  Not only is there a huge show tonight at my building which I’m excited about but I received an email today from Simply Canvas mentioning that they heard I’m using them as my canvas company for all the canvases in my studio.  Yep, absolutely true.  I had completely planned to only display canvases on my walls when designed the studio and they were always going to be, Simply Canvas.

So today they asked me for some images as they saw my blog post about my studio and they’ve now featured me on their blog.  Additionally, I just received a call asking if I’ll participate in a webinar in the near future on studios & displays so I’ll be doing that soon as well (I’m totally excited about that).

She’s FOUR!

I can’t believe today is Madi’s birthday.  At this time (4 years ago (around 1:30am)) I was (as I remember correctly) pretty much begging for my epidural.  I had a scheduled induction for Madi which was VERY different than my labor with my Sydney….but then I was a first time mom as well.

Madi came screaming into the world (which was a good thing), and while we thought she was the calmest baby in the nursery (we had her in suburban Maryland just outside of DC), we quickly discovered she was a VERY colicky baby.  Something I’m convinced carries over at times today.  At the same time, I’m amazed that this tiny little baby (she was the littlest thing and always has been) has grown into this amazing little girl who loves to tell stories, jokes, tell you the shapes of clouds and sing, oh she’d sing all day long if you let her and dance…we have constant dancing in our house.  For her birthday she got her “big girl bike” which means we are now wearing a helmet and on training wheels…it’s just amazing for me to see everyday.  The thought of her going to kindergarten next year is something I truly can’t think about…I think I’ll live in denial for a bit longer….

..the pea in the pod — it’s great blackmail…I figure she’ll think it’s cute until about 2nd grade and then she’ll never forgive me for it :)

My studio…is finished!

I am deliriously happy and so pleased to say that my studio is finally finished!  I can’t say one more word without publicly acknowledging the massive amount of work my unbelievably amazing husband Steve did (thank you VERY MUCH babe!).  He installed every single square inch (all 400+ sq. ft.) of flooring, every inch of baseboard, assembled so many items, and generally put up with my sour (at times) mood and uber-demanding timeline.  As you know, we got the keys on July 17 and for those that need a reminder of what the before looked like, go HERE.  I can’t believe how far we’ve come in just 11 days.  I haven’t had a chance to really sit down and enjoy it yet, I hope to soon….

And for those of you who see this and if I have your email address, you’ll be receiving an evite really soon for my Open House that will be happening very soon!  I definitely plan to run some fun “Grand Opening Specials”…but I just have to plan them out.

(And just a side note — we’ll be CLOSED FROM THURSDAY, JULY 31-AUGUST 4 with very limited email & voicemail). With that said….here’s a few images of the “after”….

Even I try to think of all the details….I’ve got my “love” table (which has “love” in many, many languages….a “kids corner” for all my little clients and some of my gorgeous new albums I can’t wait for everyone to see!

Laddy & Craig’s Engagement…

What do you say about two people who are a total blast to be with?  I had so much fun with Laddy & Craig on Sunday and I’m super excited about their wedding in less than 2 months!!  It will be a Laotian wedding and I’ll be traveling to Charlotte to photograph it for them.  We met in Greensboro for their engagement at the Botanical Gardens and the O’Henry Hotel.

Kristina & Patrick’s Wedding…

On Saturday, I was fortunate to be a part of Kristina & Patrick’s wedding at the Vass Country Club.  It was just an absolutely gorgeous venue for a really beautiful wedding.  While the day was certainly memorable for everyone, it was definitely one of the most emotional wedding’s I’ve probably ever photographed.

This image was just one of those moments….Kristina’s dad was leaving their house to head off to the ceremony, they opened the door and all this gorgeous light poured in…it was perfect…

I always love the moment when the dad sees his daughter for the first time…

The happy, beautiful new couple…

I saw all the cupcakes sitting so beautifully in the ballroom and it was just perfect…

Yay details!

Kristina & Patrick….I wish you luck, love & happiness as you begin this new journey…….

Cool new business cards…

So I’m always changing my mind about things, logos, stickers, you name it, I’m always looking around for better, cuter, more unique, etc.  Business cards have been the one thing that have always driven me crazy.  I actually don’t hand out a lot of them but when I do, they always seem very “blah”.  Cardstock, 2×3″ – you know, very standard.  I had seen metal business cards and really liked the look of those but they just didn’t fit into the budget for me, and then I looked into a local printer that does these beautiful letterpress cards and those were a bit more than I wanted to spend too.

Another thing I found and always loved were plastic business cards.  I thought they were cool & funky and different.  So I found this great company out West that printed them from me (after many discussions on the phone) and they _just_ arrived (stalking the FedEx guy again).  It’s funny, we’ve gotten so many deliveries lately – the girls actually kind of expect boxes at the house now every day.

So here they are….they are tiny – just 2×2 and thinner than I was hoping but I love them.

Oh….and for those who are looking for a studio update – we are definitely making progress.  My husband is seriously the most amazing guy on the planet.  We’ve been putting in very long hours since Thursday.  He put in the entire floor, by hand, himself (and he doesn’t know the first thing about flooring) – the walls have been painted (and look awesome) (ok, I did most of the painting).  Baseboard & trim is almost done.  Now the furniture is starting to arrive.  We are hoping to be done by Monday.  My original hope was to have an Open House next week but I’m going to delay it a bit for a few reasons until early-August but definitely stay tuned :)

Ingrid & Daniel’s Wedding – Prestonwood Country Club

Ahh, yesterday’s wedding was amazing.  I had the extreme pleasure and honor to be a part of Ingrid & Daniel’s wedding at Prestonwood Country Club.  It was truly a gorgeous day.  Kristine at Prestonwood did an amazing job coordinating event, Flowers on Broad Street provided the most beautiful flowers and DJ Joe Bunn did a fantastic job as well keeping everyone hopping on the dance floor.  Special thanks also to Penny Noell who assisted me as well as my assistant Linda.

Ingrid & Daniel are truly an incredible couple.  Not only do they have such a deep love for each other, but they treat everyone around them with great kindess as well, and I can’t tell you how wonderful that is to be around people like that.  Their wedding was filled with tears of happiness & joy & love.

I managed to arrive a little before Ingrid yesterday and the flowers were already there.  I swear – her bouquet was sitting on the table, it had this light shining on it – I really didn’t manipulate it much…

I just love this shot of Ingrid, it was just after she got her dress on, still in the bathroom even…

Love the bridesmaids’ reaction to seeing Ingrid for the first time…

They had a great bubble exit right after the ceremony….it was raining…but we still managed to pull it off!

The very beautiful bride.

The gorgeous new couple.

Ahhh, you all know I love the details — and Ingrid (being another shoe girl) — had not, one but TWO pairs of incredible shoes.  Her second pair – HOT PINK!

Ingrid & Daniel….from the bottom of my heart, thank you!

My studio!!

FINALLY!  After what has felt like an eternity to me I received the keys to my studio this morning!  I am beside myself with a whole mix of emotions.  And while I’d love to show you all the progress as it goes, I think I’ll just give you all some before and then after :)   I will be joining two other fantastic photographers Penny Noell and Kevin Milz as well as a host of other wonderful artists in this building.

But, here’s my official new address (ok it’s officially kind of strange to write this):

Robin Lin Photography
807 E. Main Street
Suite 3113
Durham, NC 27701

(And to those who have been paying extra attention – yes, this is not the original space I was in, this is bigger – I’m really excited about this new space, especially this gorgeous brick wall).

Pool Party for Two!

My apologies for not blogging for a few days – I actually have a lot going on right now, but my sister and brother-in-law were in for a few days visiting and our girls had their combined birthday party this past Saturday.  We’ve never done a combo party before but figured why not?!  Their birthdates are only 6 weeks apart, so why not take advantage of it?  We were at Meadowmont Pool on Saturday morning and had so much fun!  I honestly think we may do it again next year.  Lots and LOTS of people…and it was WAY hot…but the girls had a blast….

Two too cute!

This morning, I had a lot of fun at the Kids Together Playground in Cary.  Meg, another one of Allison’s & Ryan’s bridesmaids contacted me as she wanted a really fun session with her adorable almost two year old.  It was a great morning to be outside and this playground is a fantastic place to explore.

Who doesn’t love little Crocs on little feet?!

The very adorable future ballerina…

On this day…12 years ago…

We got married!  July 4 was our “dating” anniversary and we’ve been together for 15 years! (I realize that makes us VERY old).  I’d show you one of our wedding pictures but that was back in the film ages and truthfully, we are talking mid-90’s here, VERY dated images already.  And our engagement pictures….I shudder when thinking about them :)   It’s funny, we are talking about doing a “another wedding” at 15 years – but then we think we are going to wait until 20 years because well, if I start planning another wedding at my age, it’s going to cost WAY more than our first wedding :)

But putting aside wedding #2….I absolutely adore my husband, Steve.  He truly has been the only person there for me through thick & thin, good times & bad.  He really has seen me not only at my very, very worst but at my very best as well.  He’s my very best friend and I can’t imagine ever being without him.  Having our 2 girls just makes our little corner of our world even more complete and I can’t thank him enough.

I know he reads my blog every once in a while so Happy Anniversary baby…thanks for everything….

Lisa & Mike’s Wedding – Fearrington House

Yesterday, I was incredibly fortunate to be a part of Lisa & Mike’s wedding at Fearrington.  Mike & Lisa are so lucky to be surrounded by the most wonderful family & friends who treated me with incredible kindness and warmth.

As everyone knows, we had a huge storm that came through the Raleigh-Durham area yesterday afternoon, and around 4pm, the sky grew very dark, the thunder started and soon the rain came.  While their wedding wasn’t set to start until 5:30, we all just hoped it would blow through quickly (as we know these storms often do).  I was with Mike and the groomsman for a while and the storm hit hard and I needed to get back to Lisa – unfortunately for me, I didn’t have an umbrella.  So I borrowed a bag from a groomsman’s pair of shoes to put my camera in and ran back to Lisa’s room (note: this is when the worst of the storm was and I guess I’ve never really been outside during lots of thunder & lightning – I have NEVER run so fast in my life and actually screamed once when it seemed as though the ground was struck nearby).

I arrived at Lisa’s room pretty soaked, borrowed Lisa’s hairdryer at her insistence (as she’s the sweetest thing ever) and continued on.  Fortunately the rain stopped, and we managed to have a GORGEOUS outdoor ceremony in the exact place Lisa & Mike wanted.  We managed to get all the outdoor photographs (even the ones with the cows :) ) before the next wave of storms came through.

This was when Lisa was waiting all alone in the Sunroom.  It was quiet, peaceful and beautiful…

Right when Lisa saw her dad for the first time…it was a moment I’ll probably never forget…

This bridal party was a BLAST!  They had tons of ideas and very much wanted to do a “fun” pose which of course I was more than happy to oblige…

The very happy new couple…

The barn was awash in gorgeous white lights…

And last, but not least…the gorgeous details…

Lisa & Mike, I cannot thank you enough again for letting me be a part of such an incredible day….all my best!
