{My Favorite 4-Year Old} Little Ones – Part Two

This morning I photographed the second session of my project with my girls.  I’m anxious to finalize this and I’ll definitely show you the finished project when I finally make all my selections (I’m now thinking of making a small album as well) as I know (at the end of the day) the girls had fun with this as well.

We arrived at my studio very early, by about 9:30 am on a Sunday morning and Madi spent the entire day yesterday skiing so she probably wasn’t exactly in the best of spirits to be doing this (which really is a note to parents when you are thinking about scheduling sessions – really think about the prior days activities).  It took me a while to really get her a while to warm up but fortunately, I know what makes her laugh and makes her tick.  She LOVES to jump and she can jump high.  So I had her jump for a while.  And then try some “pretty smiles”.  It is very hard for me to believe she will be 5 this year.  And then of course we bring in the very sassy, very silly Sydney to finish it off and get my favorite two images of the two of them.  One of these two will be part of my series.  Thanks!

{My Favorite 2-Year Old} Little Ones

Ok, so yes this is probably my favorite two-year old I’ve photographed in a while, because she’s mine.  This is Miss Sydney who is technically 2 1/2 and I needed to experiment with this fun background I picked up yesterday.  While I’m not a big studio shooter, preferring outdoor locations and on-location – there definitely have been times when we’ve been in my studio for sessions.  When I found this yesterday I instantly fell in love knowing that it would work for little girls (I bought something not quite so punchy but equally fun for little boys).  I’m planning a series of really large canvases for our house and I’m definitely going to use one of Sydney from this series.  Next up will be my other daughter Madison and then I need to get the two of them together to finish it up.  Oh yeah, the tutu – little girls love this tutu.  It’s super soft, so flowy and fluffy, one of the best purchases I’ve made for my portrait division.

{Extraodinary Healers – CURE} Published Work

Late last year, some of you may know that I had two assignments for CURE for their Extraordinary Healers book that was to be published this spring.  I was absolutely honored to be a part of this project.  The background of the project is that cancer patients nomiate their extraordinary nurses who go above and beyond during their journey in healing.  Truly these nurses are the most amazing people, they are the kindest souls you will ever meet.  When I was calling them to set up these assignments you could hear it in their voices, everything was about their patients, even when it would complicate their schedules.

These patients and nurses are truly a testament of strength and courage when often times I’m sure they wanted to give up.  Talking to them about their healing journey gave me hope and strength and gave me renewed faith in life.

I submitted my work to CURE not knowing what images would be selected.  I was told by CURE that I would be receiving something “additional” with my copy of the book.  Yesterday (February 18), my copy arrived.  Of course I quickly went through the table of contents to find where Ginny and Martha’s essays would be found and to find their photos and I was so delighted with the images they selected, everything looked beautiful.  I closed the book and looked at the cover.  I looked at it a second time.  I realized then that they selected an image from my session with Martha & Judy at UNC Hospital for the cover of the book.

I can’t begin to express my thanks to CURE, Glenn Zamora and Martha and Judy.  If it wasn’t for all of them, this wouldn’t be possible.  I am so terribly humbled by this.  Here now, is the cover and the images with the essays.  Thank you again and thank you for reading.

{A New Network For Photographers} My Life

Just wanted to share some fun news about a new photographic group which in essence was just “born”.

The Wedding Photographic Society (WPS) – a network of professional photographers who share ideas, thoughts and information to help raise the artistic, technical and business level in our profession. Membership in the WPS offers many professional & personal growth opportunities through educational opportunities, networking, critiques and camaraderie.  WPS meetings, forums and web pages are open to any and all professional wedding photographers across the world.

This all started with a handful of photographers meeting at a coffee house talking shop in 2005.  Four years later the core of WPS was born.  Martha ManningShane SniderBrian Mullins, Stacy BorelliChristobal Perez, and myself participate in bringing information to help the growth of photographers across the country. Everyone is invited to help and donate their time so The WPS grow into a international organization.

The WPS was created to help build relationships, share knowledge amongst peers and help create a competitive yet supportive photographic community.  Leaders & Members of the WPS donate their time in order to help find guest speakers, topic discussions and provide advice, guidance and information sharing freely without compensation.

With that goal in mind, the WPS launched their website, forums & blogs to bring together the professional wedding photographic community.

Please visit us by going to the website and blog.
As always, thank you so much for your support!

{A Baby for Charlotte + Breandan} Maternity

I’m so excited to meet Charlotte & Breandan’s baby in a few weeks.  Not only did I photograph their wedding in 2007, but they are taking advantage of my “The ‘R’ List” available to my wedding clients (which is really amazing).  So I’ll be seeing a lot of them in the next year.  They don’t know what they are having but I have a guess :)   Charlotte & Breandan have been living overseas and just moved back to the Raleigh area so I was so happy when Charlotte emailed me to not only tell me they were back but she was pregnant.  Here are just a few of my very, VERY favorites from our session last Wednesday.  Everything was shot in my studio and in the area.

{TreBella Bridal} Commercial

Earlier today I was very fortunate to photograph TreBella’s bridal salon.  They’ve only recently relocated into this new space and it’s absolutely breathtaking.  I walked in, saw all the gorgeous (and I mean really gorgeous) gowns…it just made me want to plan a wedding all over again (seriously)!  Becky, Rachel and Kathryn are absolutely amazing to work with, for your wedding gown, your flowers or their incredibly cute gift boutique.  Thanks so much ladies for allowing me to be a part of this project!

{Bella Beautiful} Little Ones Session

I have to say, these two are the toughest little girls out there. Yesterday morning I had a really great time with them and their mom but it was CHILLY. And they were such troopers. We only spent minutes outside and than ran inside for the rest of our session. All of these were shot outside with the exception of the last one. Thanks so much again ladies!
