{Animal House…the cake} Sugarland, Chapel Hill, NC

Photographing cakes are fun.  Seriously.  I love being able to see the incredible designs and artistry that the bakers come up with at all the weddings, etc. that I get to attend.  These cakes range from the incredibly simplistic to the crazy over-the-top to everything in between.  All of which (I think) reflect the mood of the event and personalities of the people perfectly.

So when Katrina Ryan, owner of Sugarland contacted me earlier this week about her “Animal House” cake…of course I couldn’t wait to see the finished product.  This cake was so cool.  I actually arrived a few minutes early and they were still working on the finishing touches so it was great to see them in do what they do best.

And if you haven’t been to Sugarland, you are missing out!  They have amazing cupcakes (love the buttercream), yummy gelato, frozen martinis and so much more.  Enjoy!

{Published} Grace + Alex, The Bride’s Book, Chapel Hill, NC

I totally love Grace and Alex.  And their wedding was really beautiful.  We had perfect weather, kind of moody skies which made for beautiful photos.  And their love for each other is just inspiring to watch.  I was so happy for them when their wedding was featured by The Bride’s Book.  It’s in the current issue right now, so definitely pick up a copy.  Grace + Alex, thank you so much again and I hope your new life (too far from me) is just as beautiful as you guys are!

{Wedding} Anne + Santiago, Celebrity Dairy, Siler City, NC

A few weeks ago, Anne + Santiago had a beautiful, intimate, bi-lingual wedding at Celebrity Dairy in Siler City.  For those who haven’t been out to Celebrity Dairy before, it’s quite the place.  A giant peacock roams around (seriously) as do other farm animals.

We had great weather for their wedding, while still warm, it was the perfect day for an outdoor ceremony.  Sugarland provided the beautiful cake and gelato bar, Robin Renteria was the officiant and the beautiful bride’s dress was by J. Crew.  Please enjoy!

{Wedding + Slideshow} Margaret + Chris, The Cotton Room, Durham, NC

Margaret and Chris had a really beautiful wedding a few weeks ago.  While it rained most of the day, it completely did not dampen their incredibly happy moods or the beauty of the day.  They are…just a really sweet, kind couple and I feel very fortunate to have been a part of their day.  The reception was held at The Cotton Room, a great new venue in downtown Durham (and where my old studio used to be).  The GORGEOUS cake was by Cinda’s Creative Cakes (love Cinda), the beautiful flowers by Floral Dimensions of Durham.

{Wedding} Margaret + Chris – Just Two…The Cotton Room, Durham, NC

Margaret & Chris’ wedding was incredible.  And while it really rained this past Saturday everything was just perfect.  They are the sweetest, so loving couple.  I couldn’t be more happy for them if I tried.  And even better for me, I was able to use my new, super sweet video lights to capture the 2nd image below (at 1:00 am on Duke’s East Campus).  Can’t wait to show more soon!  Thank you again so much!

{Kiss Me} Corinne + Jeremy, Carolina Inn, UNC Campus

Can I tell you fantastic Corinne + Jeremy are?!  They are SO much fun to be around, super in love and well, just cute.  We had a really great Kiss Me (Engagement) session a couple of weeks ago starting at the Carolina Inn and then heading to one of my very favorite locations on UNC’s Campus, the Forest Theater.  Can’t WAIT for their wedding this fall!

{Wedding} Tarrah + Ryan, Fearrington, Pittsboro, NC

Tarrah + Ryan had an absolutely GORGEOUS wedding at the always wonderful Fearrington.  Amazing weather (ok a bit warm), but we had a great breeze during the ceremony that made everything beautiful.  I can’t thank my second shooter for the day, Penny Noell enough, she brought so much to the table that day.  Thank you!  And a huge thank you to Tarrah & Ryan for allowing me to be a part of your amazing wedding!

{Wedding} Amanda + Brandon, La Grande Maison, Mebane, NC

Amanda + Brandon had a beautiful wedding at LaGrande Maison in Mebane earlier this month.  While it was a tad bit warm, there was a beautiful breeze, gorgeous blue skies, couldn’t have asked for nicer weather.  Their families have come together and celebrated their new life together.  Thank you both again for allowing me to be a part of your day.

{Wedding} Jessie + Steve, Corolla Beach, North Carolina

Jessie & Steve.  For as long as I’ve known Jessie’s family it has always been Jessie & Steve.  They are such incredibly beautiful both inside and out and have the most adorable little girl together.  I’ve never been more touched, honored and humbled to have been able to document their wedding.  The weather could not have been more perfect for them, with the bluest of Carolina blue skies, perfect temperature and a slight breeze.  An intimate wedding of family and friends…it was the perfect day.

Thank you both again for everything.  I can’t even begin to ever express my gratitude.

{WPS Convention 2010} Lens Lessons – Session for Deux

The past weekend, I was incredibly honored to be a speaker at the WPS Convention (Wedding Photographic Society).  Part of being a speaker was also instructing a group of photographers in a “Lens Lesson”.  My topic, A Session for Deux, or engagement session.  I was honored to work with the gorgeous Kasey and her wonderful boyfriend.  They have incredible chemistry and are obviously very happy to be together – so it made my job really easy.  I hope that everyone who attended both sessions found working with me and my couple a great learning experience!  And Kasey, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.  You were so amazing to work with!

{Bridal} Amanda, Mebane, NC

I was fortunate to document Amanda’s bridal on a recent Saturday.  All was well with the day and I started to head out when my husband called me and said a really big storm was moving in.  Confirmed by the very dark clouds, I pulled up intellicast.com and their current radar (note: I absolutely LOVE this site for checking current radar & weather).  Sure enough, giant storm about to move in and it was questionnable where it was in relation to where I was going.

I started driving and literally 10 minutes in I hit the worst weather I’ve had in a while.  It poured, thundered, the whole thing.  Traffic came to a stop on the freeway, it was bad.  I called Amanda and asked her what it was like by her and she said a huge storm had come through but it was fine now.  So I continued to what will be their amazing new property.  It turned out to be the perfect conditions, cloudy sky providing gorgeous light….couldn’t have asked for more.  And Amanda is so sweet, I can’t wait to be a part of their wedding in a few weeks!

Guashauna + Ed’s wedding was pure beautiful.  They are just a wonderful couple with the best hearts, I can’t thank them enough for allowing me to document their day.  The weather, all the details, everything came together absolutely beautifully.  They have amazing friends & family, who love to have fun and made the entire day such a pleasure for me, but also have incredible love for them as well.

{Wedding} Candice + Todd, Jones Chapel, Meredith College, Renaissance Hotel North Hills, Raleigh, NC

Ok, so this blog post is, how can we say, umm, a bit tardy.  I feel horrible about that but I know Candice & Todd already have all their wedding images (and have had them for a long time) so I think they’ll forgive me :)  

Candice & Todd had the most beautiful wedding in February.  I know when I had their final meeting they were so worried about the weather and it turned out to be a gorgeous, sunny day.  They have beautiful families full of love, happiness and most of all, a LOT of laughs which made for a great day.  I can’t thank them enough!

Tonight I’ve started editing Guashauna & Ed’s GORGEOUS wedding from Friday night at Prestonwood Country Club – there were so many absolutely gorgeous things about it, I just can’t wait to blog it all.  But one image really stands out to me.  I absolutely LOVE being able to be with the bride when she’s getting ready.  There is so much emotion, so much energy and so much beauty in those few hours before the ceremony.  I just wanted to share one of my favorites of the day so far.  So many, beautiful images to come!

{Wedding} Candice + Todd – 2/20/10 – Meredith College – Renaissance North Hills, Raleigh Wedding

Candice + Todd has the most amazingly beautiful wedding.  I’m actually posting their slideshow HERE right now before their blog post.  Lots of reasons for that, but I hope everyone will enjoy their slideshow.  The weather was absolutely perfect!  When I had my final meeting with Candice & Todd, I mentioned how snow would be really pretty for their wedding and Candice told me absolutely NOT!  Well, she got her wish.  It was the most gorgeous day.  Sunny, bright blue skies and I remember it was in the mid-50s even – which was pretty remarkable as the weekend before we had receieved (yet another) snowfall this winter.

Candice & Todd are the sweetest, most loving couple.  I feel incredibly blessed and honored to have been a part of their wedding.  Not only was I fortunate to have been able to document their day, but they allowed me into their lives…and it’s something I will never forget.
